Book Cataloguing

Do you guys use a social cataloguing application to catalogue your books online?

I have been using Library Thing for quite a while now. As far as I know, it’s the biggest and most popular among such applications as it allows you to access data from Amazon as well as from libraries around the world. It’s great, save for a fee that you have to pay when you go over 200 books.

I recently switched to another popular social/book cataloguing app - Shelfari. It may not be as big as Library Thing but it looks better design-wise and is very user friendly. Most importantly, it allows for an unlimited number of books and is FREE.

Here are some other social cataloguing applications you may be interested in:

1. GuruLib - http://www.gurulib.com/
2. Good Reads - http://www.goodreads.com/
3. Revish - http://www.revish.com/
4. What’s on My Bookshelf - http://whatsonmybookshelf.com/
5. Anobii - http://www.anobii.com/anobi/anobii_home.php
6. Amazon’s Your Media Library http://www.amazon.com/gp/ays

I’m sure there’s more out there that I failed to mention. In your opinion, which is the best site?

My personal favourite remains to be the mac-designed Delicious Library. It’s simply delicious! I highly recommend it. And great news! You can now export your library to the web using this nifty tool.

I've never used any of them, but a friend of mine uses Shelfari. I'd never even heard of it until I was up in Philadelphia to visit her over the weekend. I probably will sign up for it eventually because it looks neat.

Shelfari is great, and it's free so you can't go wrong :). Also if you're on Facebook, you can put a widget of your shelf on your profile page. Some of my friends have it and it looks pretty cool.

I use LibraryThing...I found that Shelfari runs much slower on my computer for some reason, and I am way too impatient to wait 2 minutes between each page switch. :D

Delicious Library...I have heard of it but don't know much about it...I have a mac, but don't you have to pay for software for it or something?

Yeah, I paid USD$40 for Delicious but it's worth it. :)

I like Shelfari because of the social interaction. I met a lot of new "friends" who have recommended some great books. Add me "schaufferwaffer". Also, check out the new Harry Potter contest http://www.shelfari.com/harrypotter/

Re: Shelfari
How important is it to find the exact cover of the book you have?

it irks me actually since most of my books are Canadian edition and Shelfari only supports the ones published in the states. the good thing is they're working on resolving it so i suppose i'll just have to wait :)
